  • Basic Registration – If the business’s annual turnover is less than 12 lakhs, the FBO should be enrolled using Registration Form A.
  • State License – If the business’s annual turnover is between 12Lakh and 20 crores, the FBO must apply for a state license (Form B).
  • Central License – If the company’s annual revenue exceeds 20 crores, the FBO must apply for a Central License Form B.

As previously mentioned, a food business owner must Apply for FSSAI online registration based on their annual turnover.

Note: A selective state’s state license is granted by the corresponding state authorities. You can look them up depending on where you plan to start your food company.

Types of FSSAI as per the size of food business

  • If the FBO operates a medium-sized company, such as a hotel, restaurant, or food manufacturer, they must obtain a state license.
  • An FSSAI Central License is needed if the FBO is a large-scale food manufacturer.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has made it mandatory for all food business operators to register for a food license. Failed to do so, FBO’s can face penalties and legal action. The laws have now become much stricter, and the act specifically mentions OFFENSES AND PENALTIES related to food and its safety.

What to do if the food business operator is running food business from various locations?

If you’re running a food company in multiple places, you’ll need to apply for multiple food licenses.
