What is FOSCOS?

Overview

FLRS (Food Licensing and Registration System), the FSSAI's online licensing platform, has been the heart of the licensing ecosystem since 2011, with coverage across the entire country (all states and UTs), 70 lakh food licenses issued to date, and over 35 lakh licensees/registrants actively selling on it.

With effect from June 1, 2020, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced a Food Safety Compliance System in the states/UTs of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Gujarat, Goa, Odisha, Manipur, Delhi, Chandigarh, and Ladakh. This system renews the current online Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS- https://foodlicensing.fssai.gov.in). Users in these States/UTs must now go to https://foscos.fssai.gov.in and log in using their credentials.

Concept of FOSCOS

FoSCoS was designed to be a one-stop-shop for all of an FBO's interactions with the department for any regulatory compliance transaction.FoSCoS is now integrated with the FoSCoRIS mobile app and will soon be integrated with FSSAI's current IT platforms, including INFOLNet, FoSTaC, FICS, and FPVIS. In the future, sample management, progress notifications, adjudications, and an audit management framework, among other activities/modules, will be allowed in stages.

All food business operators (FBO) in India must obtain a food license from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). This 14-digit FSSAI license number contains information about the producer's permit or enrollment details, as well as the manufacturing state.
